Ohgeesy | The Republik in Honolulu

It has been two years since The Republik, in Honolulu, Hawaii has hosted a hip–hop show. On the last Friday in February, fans were treated to the West Coast rhymes of Ohgeesy. The capacity crowd was primed for the Los Angeles based rapper.

As soon as you walked into The Republik you got hit with the party vibe. DJ Vision pumped up the crowd and had everyone dancing. Hawaii’s own Young Hawaii Slim returned home and took the stage for an abbreviated set. The former resident, draped in an orchid lei, barked verses, and professed his love of the Islands.

Finally, DJ Vision, Young Hawaii Slim, and what seemed like a couple dozen friends flooded the stage and led the chant of “OHGEESY”. The former Shoreline Mafia member arrived onstage at the height of the party. Ohgeesy introduced us to cuts off of his solo release, Geezyworld, and reacquainted the crowd to Shoreline Mafia’s finest. The lyricist gave us everything we expected; tales of sex, incessent weed smoking, and untamed drug use. All of this was done with the chest beating swagger of a prize fighter. An hour later Ohgeesy and his crew left the stage looking for the next party, which I’m sure they found.
