Portland, Oregon native Aminé visited the islands to promote his latest album Good For You. This up and coming rapper who was named one of the top ten members of XXL’s 2017 Freshman class has been globetrotting the world. In the past month he has toured Australia, New Zealand, hit the Governor’s Ball in New York City, Coachella in California, and finally The Republik, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Right from the start Aminé took control of the stage and the crowd. Baba opened the set to a wall of cell phones. The songs bounce and catchy hook set the tone for the show. Throughout the show the rapper called attention to the need for strong self-respect, confidence, and dignity. He demanded the crowd to repeat “I Know” every time he complemented the crowd with “You’re Beautiful.”
During his fifty minute set Aminé played the majority of his latest album including STFU, Spice Girl, REDMERCEDES, and even included his own rendition of TLC’s "Scrubs." The set concluded with "Caroline." From beginning to end, Aminé strong presence demanded everyone’s attention. His confidence and poise was evident throughout the performance. Hopefully we will hear more from this fresh and vibrant rapper in the future.
