Review: Dance Gavin Dance - Mothership Tour 10/16/16

In support of their recently released 7th album, Mothership, Dance Gavin Dance decimated the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale with a powerhouse of a performance. The club was packed from wall to wall with older fans to the newer generation, each side buzzing with anticipation for the live set.

Dance Gavin Dance kicked off the night with the first single of their latest record “Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise” immediately invoking a moshpit frenzy in the center of the club. The fans swayed and sang along from mid career classics such as “Spooks” and “Lemon Meringue Tie” while Dance Gavin Dance plowed through a subtle mixture of newer songs. Combining a handful of newer hits, while remembering to focus on their older albums, created a powerful setlist that made the energy of the crowd rival that of the band.

The chemistry of the band together seems to be at an all time high on this tour, pushing each farther and higher than before. This leaves no surprise that almost every show on the tour is sold out – or close to it. The band closed out the night with an encore of “Alex English” sending the crowd into absolute mania.

Having never seen Dance Gavin Dance live, I was absolutely impressed with their onstage presence. Their sound it tight, and they engage the crowd, letting them be an integral part of the show. Major props to vocalist Tilian Pearson for performing the entire night on crutches after an injury shortly before the beginning of the tour!
